Congratulations to the St Mary’s Cathedral College Sydney Class of 2025 on your outstanding Higher School Certificate (HSC) results!
The school climbed 19 places to rank 109th in the state in The Sydney Morning Herald rankings, recording 93 Distinguished Achievers and three All Rounders. Thirty-three per cent of students achieved an ATAR above 85, reflecting the strong academic performance across the cohort.
St Mary’s Principal Kerrie McDiarmid congratulated Year 12 on their fantastic effort and achievements.
“It is fantastic to see the continued positive results at St Mary’s Cathedral College. There have been some outstanding ATAR achievements; however, most significantly, we have witnessed remarkable growth from a number of students.
“Three of our students received ARTEXPRESS Showcase selections in Visual Arts, highlighting the exceptional creativity and talent within our College”.
“A key factor in our HSC success has been the mentoring provided by staff and former students, with a strong focus on constructive feedback and maintaining high expectations. This approach has helped students reach their full potential while fostering a culture of growth and excellence”.
“What impresses us most about the Class of 2025 is their collaboration, commitment to improvement, resilience, and the way they support one another in striving for both personal and collective success”.
“These accomplishments were made possible through the strong relationships between students and staff, and a supportive learning environment where high expectations are matched with high support,” Mrs McDiarmid said.
This year, the College celebrated Xavier Smith as College DUX with an ATAR of 99.2, and Evan Zafiropoulos, School Captain, in second place with an ATAR of 98.85. Both students are thrilled to use their results to pursue Law studies.
Reflecting on his HSC journey, Xavier said, “I’m very glad it is all over and excited to focus on other interests before university. Ancient History was my favourite subject because it really helped me grow academically in reading and writing, and it inspired my next steps towards studying Law.”
He also shared some practical advice for future students: “Treat all of Year 12 seriously from the start – early assessments count and set the foundation. Forming study groups and sharing notes helps retain knowledge and reduce workload, and maintaining sleep and exercise is essential to perform at your best.”
