The St Mary’s Cathedral College Class of 2018 continued the tradition of achieving outstanding HSC results. From a cohort of 97 students, 40 candidates appeared at least once on the Premier’s Distinguished Achievers list, which requires students to achieve a Band 6 (a mark above 90) in an individual subject. Students from the College recorded a total of 86 appearances on the list, with a further three notional Band 6 results. When expressed as a percentage of courses examined, this result placed the College in 90th position in the state; consequently we are among the state’s best performing non-selective boys’ schools.

An indicator of the cohort’s success is that 84 students (out of 97) were offered a place in university for 2019.
Elias Haddad was listed on the All-round Achievers merit list, having achieved a result in the highest band possible (Band 6 or Band E4) in 10 or more units of courses attempted. We are also proud of Javier Mobellan (Music 2), Sam Haifa (Studies of Religion I) and John Papagelis (Modern Greek Beginners) who were placed first in course in the Sydney Diocese.
Amazingly, Cathedral students scored an average mark above the state average in 25 of the 30 courses offered. Courses with notable above-state-averages included Ancient History (8.01), Construction (5.67), English Standard (5.46), Industrial Technology (14.8), Modern History (10.5), Music 1 (7.7), PDHPE (5.14), and SOR 2 (7.58) .
The College is equally proud of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) achieved by many of our students. This rank is used by students to attain places in universities. Twenty-one students received an ATAR over 90. We congratulate all these students. Special mention goes to Elias Haddad, the College Dux of 2018, who received an ATAR of 99.60.
