St Mary’s Cathedral College has celebrated the next chapter of its 200-year history with the burial of a time capsule in the new William Street Campus.

To help mark the College’s transition to a co-educational Kindergarten to Year 12 dual-campus school, the time capsule was sealed into the ground by College Principal Kerrie McDiarmid and Sydney Catholic Schools Chief of Staff Jacqueline Frost.

Containing a collection of student and teacher reflections, memorabilia, and key artefacts from 2024, the time capsule will serve as both a tribute to the College’s legacy and a symbol of the future ahead.

The time capsule will sit beneath the concrete at the 52-58 William Street site, which continues its transformation from a commercial office building into a state-of-the-art multi-storey learning centre.

The vertical campus will include contemporary secondary spaces, seminar areas and facilities for the performing arts, and will help to accommodate the growing number of students in the years to come.

“The Bicentennial Year has been one of celebration! We have delved into the archives, unearthing historical treasures that tell the story of our vibrant community,” Mrs McDiarmid said.

“We hope that in a century’s time, in 2124, when the capsule is unearthed, our St Mary’s community of the future will reflect on what it means to be part of such a special place and gain a profound understanding of the history, faith, and traditions that have shaped our school.

“For now, though, we’re looking forward to the opening of the William Street campus and seeing the building come together to offer exceptional learning spaces for our students and staff.”
