As St Mary’s Cathedral College enters a new era, its visual identity is undergoing a dynamic refresh that reflects its historic past while embracing its future as a Kindergarten to Year 12 coeducational, dual-campus school.
The rebranding of the College, located in the heart of the city, is more than just a visual transformation. It’s a celebration of the school’s legacy, its connection to St Mary’s Cathedral – the mother church of Australia – and its commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
Symbolism in Every Detail
In the design of the new visual identity lies a deep reverence for the College’s heritage and its close association with St Mary’s Cathedral. It draws direct inspiration from the rich symbolism present within the Cathedral.
The crest’s shape mirrors the design of the Cathedral’s front doors, paying homage to its distinctive architecture.
Central to the crest is the creation of a new St Mary’s monogram, which references the IHS symbol of Christ’s presence in the world. The central letters of the new crest represent the lettering of St Mary’s Cathedral College. The Marian ‘fleur de lis’ cross signifies the values that are exemplified by Mary of the Gospels.
Revitalised School Colours
The distinctive new colour palette represents the rich elegance of the Cathedral with the incorporation of gold, complemented by navy blue, a colour that reflects the heritage of the College.
- Main colour: Navy. This colour has been preserved from the previous palette to maintain continuity, a connection to the College’s proud 200-year history.
- Secondary colour: Gold. This colour has been introduced to represent the Cathedral’s interior beauty and warmth, reflecting the gold hue of light that shines through the stained glass windows and onto the historic sandstone walls.
A Vision for the Future
Guided by the motto “Vita ad Plenam” (“Life to the Full”), St Mary’s Cathedral College is poised to embark on a new chapter filled with promise and possibility.
The inspiration for the motto is drawn from the words of Christ found in the Gospel of John: ‘I came that they may have life, and have it to the full’ (John 10:10). These words remind us of the plans God has for us. When we have faith in Christ, we truly encounter the hope and love required to live a full life.
As we embark on this new era in the history of the College, we honour the legacy of all who have come before, and recognise that the St Mary’s Cathedral College story is a living tradition that will continue to unfold with hope and purpose.
